Mike Stewart, Land Surveyor UT & AZ

Red Sands Geomatics is a compilation of the innumerable efforts of teachers, coaches, parents, employers, and friends that I have interacted with in my life. I run and operate this business because of them. I am a strong believer in paying it forward as there are acts of service and kindness that can never be repaid.

My experience in land surveying began in 2015. I graduated as the Valedictorian from Utah Valley University with a bachelor’s degree in Geomatics in 2019. I obtained my Professional Land Surveying license in 2021 and started Red Sands Geomatics, LLC in 2023.

While at UVU, I served as the Geomatics president and competed at the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) and National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) student competitions. One of the highlights of my college years was traveling with UVU to survey, scan, explore, and document the active archeological site Beit Lehi in Israel. If I could be an archeological surveyor full-time I would!

Currently licensed in Utah and Arizona and am member of the Utah Council of Land Surveyors.

I am extremely passionate about the outdoors and spend my free time with my family out-and-about every chance I get. I love land surveying and what it is evolving into with the advancement of scanning technology and drones. It is truly incredible what can be accomplished with today’s technology!

Spanish Fork Office

Taylor Christensen, Land Surveyor UT & ID

I began surveying in 2016 when I enrolled at Utah Valley University, I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Geomatics in 2019. I obtained my Utah and Idaho Professional Land Surveying Licenses in 2024 and joined Red Sands Geomatics in 2025.

My surveying experience includes large and small-scale surveying projects, using a variety of tools and methods, with previous employers in Utah and Idaho. These methods include: Geodetic Leveling, Photogrammetry, Lidar, Boundary, Topography, Cadastral and ALTA/NSPS Surveying.

I received my Part 107 license in 2018 and am passionate about aerial surveying. I have performed small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) topography surveys consistently since receiving my license. Making sure to be up to date on all safety and technology updates.

I believe in good communication and will strive to explain every step of the process in surveying your land so that not only can you know that your fence is in the right spot but you can also explain to the neighbors why the fence is correct.

I love spending time with my family and strive to keep them proud of me as a father, husband, and a Land Surveyor.

Cedar City Office

Rhett Lee, Survey Technician

I am working toward full professional licensure while contributing strong technical expertise to a wide range of surveying and geomatics projects. With a down-to-earth attitude (and the occasional well-timed joke). Whether I’m navigating rugged terrain or fine-tuning a plat to perfection, I bring accuracy, reliability, and a good sense of humor to every project. I approach every project with commitment and consistency.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors and expanding my understanding of land, mapping, and the environments I survey. Growing up in dog town in Cedar City on the same street my great grandparents lived gave me a great appreciation for the extensive history that comes with the great location we live in. Between chasing deer out in Pine Valley and exploring the Dutton, I love my job in the outdoors and wouldn’t change it for anything.

Tyler Nielson, Land Surveyor UT, AZ, CO, & NM

I graduated from Utah Valley University in 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Surveying and Mapping, where surveying quickly became a true passion of mine. During my time in school, I gained valuable hands-on experience working with the Engineering Department for Provo City, the Wasatch County Surveyor’s Office, and Jones & DeMille Engineering.

After graduation, I immediately began pursuing professional licensure and became licensed in Utah within three months. I then went on to obtain surveying licenses in Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, accomplishing all of this within 2023.

My experience includes working with both private and government entities, and I am well-versed in boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and construction staking. I also hold a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and have conducted numerous small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) flights for a variety of surveying and mapping projects.

Outside of surveying, I enjoy spending time with my family. I love riding horses, camping, and hunting big mule deer and elk, and I especially enjoy watching my daughters play sports.
